COLD weather!!!

I keep reading on other's blogs that say they are having outdoor picnics and sitting on the porch enjoying the sunset, when my car will hardly even start, let alone even thinking of sending the kids outside to play!  For the last two weeks it has been averaging -25 in the morning, and I have a fellow homeschooling friend farther up north who told me she had -55 the other morning!  Ack!  What I wouldn't give for 20 above let alone having an outdoor picnic!

We have had some gorgeous views of Mt. McKinley though.  I have to admit I have taken some awesome shots of it.  I will include my favorite one here.   I was even thinking of getting a bunch of copies done and selling them to tourists this summer.  Anyone done this kind of thing before, or would you buy one, and at what price?  I was thinking around a 5×7 matted (ready to be framed) size.

Oh, and as far as education goes, we took an impromptu field trip the other morning to watch the full moon set behind Mt. McKinley at sunrise.  SO BEAUTIFUL!!  How Majestic is His name!!!

Mini-VACATION!

I was going to tag along with dh to Seattle when he was going down for work.  So, we used a mileage ticket, got good deals on a nice hotel and rental car through Expedia, and were all set when dh called from work one day and said that his trip had been cancelled!  Ack!  BUT, his boss gave him the days off!  So, now his work won't be reimbursing any of the trip, and we had to change my flights to ones with 2 mileage seats available, but now we have 4 days in Seattle just the three of us!  M will be going with us (of course!) but my parents are keeping two of the kids and the other two are going to stay with a large homeschooling family from church!

The kids are really excited about staying with grandparents and friends.  We are excited about getting away for a few days!  We are going to do touristy things one day, drive to Portland on Sunday for church and visiting with friends, one day shopping, and one day doing whatever suits our fancies. 😉  I am really looking forward to having dh all to myself (for the most part) for that long.  I am hoping we get some good conversations going, and just enjoy each other!

Well, I better go get the kids to bed and finish packing.  Tomorrow will probably prove to be hectic, and I don't want to lose my temper…sigh….

I will have to give an update with we return…or maybe while we are there, if I get bored!  We will have dh's laptop with us, and the hotel has highspeed internet. 😉

M’s latest accomplishments

It has been so long since I posted!  5s1 is getting to be such a big boy.  He has such expressions now, and seems to be trying his voice with a few words.  I thought he said “dog” the other day!  He is very happy walking around the house as long as he is pushing his walker or holding fingers on both of my hands.  He actually crawls now instead of pulling himself around too.

Oh, and the latest news is that he has a new tooth!  He got his first two bottom teeth around Labor Day, and he just cut his first top tooth last week.  The other top tooth is trying to break through, but it seems kind of stubborn.  He is such a horrible teether too!  ugh!

Speaking of whom, I should go to bed and sleep while he is.  Night!

Oh, and thanks to those who posted comments recently.  It helped inspire me to actually write these posts down, instead of just in my head at night!  LOL!!

Christmas already?

I am SO in the mood for Christmas already!  I already have my wrapping paper, some presents, and am ancy to decorate!  I am thinking about hanging lights outside tomorrow or Friday.  Dh is gone for a few days, and my brother is supposed to be showing up sometime late tonight, so with my brother's help, I could suprise my dh and have it done when he gets home.  I think I may break out some of the garlands and general “winter” decorations.

Maybe it is because we had snow today!  Unfortunately I had to drive in it, but the Lord was with me and we made it to town and home safely.  Well, I was just wondering if I am the only one in the Christmas mood already!?

River school

We went down to the river today with a fellow homeschooling friend and the kids spent the whole time creating dams, levees and lakes, and then letting a little leak start.  They had a grand time learning about the power of water!  I stopped by the library on the way home and picked up a video about dams, natural disasters, and weather.  They watched the one on dams, and really enjoyed it.  Guess that is what we will study in science for a little while!  I told them that if it was nice tomorrow we might go back to the river.  I am taking a good book with me this time, as my friend won't be able to go again tomorrow.

I will post pictures of their creations and some of them in front of Mt. McKinley later.

Fall portraits – by me

I really enjoy photography, but the only time that I make the time to focus on it is each fall when I take “school” pictures of my children.  I love the way their pictures turn out so much  better than taking them to a “professional” at Sears or Walmart.

Some day, I would like to offer my services to area homeschoolers.  I have taken pictures for two of my friends in recent years, as well as Senior pictures for my SIL, one of which she used for the slide show at her graduation.

Anyway, here are my “students.”

M’s accomplishments!

My youngest, M, will be 8 months old on the 30th.  He is such a fun baby!  He has been on the fussy side lately, but I think he is teething, as he has yet to cut a tooth!

He can get up on his hands and knees, but he can't seem to figure out where to go from there, so he just army crawls.  He slithers all over the floor.  Ugh, his clothes are *so* dirty by the end of the day.  He is my little dust mop!

He has figured out how to pull up on things though!  This morning, I set him on the floor next to my bed to play while I dozed for a few more minutes, and I heard him say, “Buuuh!”  I opened my eyes, and he was standing next to me holding onto the laundry basket!  He was so proud of himself!

His favorite place to crawl is through the bottom of the coffee table!  Everytime he is in the livingroom, it goes out of his way to crawl through it.  I will have to post a picture of him doing it.
